How to See Differently

Sometimes you think you know what to expect and then things get upended. That’s life.

This summer, I had cataract surgery, a common procedure many folks I know have had: “The colors are so bright “ & “I love that I don't have to wear glasses to read”.

The morning after my first procedure I removed the protective shield from my eye and looked out the window. My new eye saw a bright blue sky with white puffy clouds. My cataract eye saw the scene washed in a dirty yellow gray film.  I was shocked and overwhelmed. How was it that I had not known how compromised I was?

Thinking I was seeing clearly, when clearly, I was not. I felt shaken.

While this was specific to my sight, I wondered what else I could not see and what changes were coming.

As the summer unfolded I spent time not wearing glasses, which for someone who wore these bits of plastic & glass since I was in third grade felt destabilizing.  I wondered who I was, but more importantly who I was becoming. I got quieter, more patient as I waited for my sight to stabilize.

Was it possible for me to adapt and adjust?

Would this experience affect other areas of my life?

My conclusion:The key is not what happened, it is what you decide to do with it.

Can I See Differently?

Here are some of the ways my coaching clients are seeing things in new ways:

An Expert who always did their speeches using dozens of slides, removes their power-point, choosing instead to speak unscripted while looking directly at the audience. Public Speaker Coaching Services

A Retiree who has avoided joining groups, is looking instead for opportunities that organically meet their interests and broader their participation. Life Coaching Services

An Agent who was running their agency independently,  added a partner which has dramatically increased their business.  Talent Development Consulting

A Therapist is expanding their creativity by embracing their passion for singing after years of self-silencing. Life Coaching Services

A Media figure whose speaking style was weighed down with facts & figures, is trusting their ability to tell stories that will contribute more deeply to their listeners. Public Speaker Coaching

Are you Willing to See in a New Way?

For the majority of my life I hated having my picture taken. In the last few years I have learned the fine art of selfies, recognizing that my most authentic portrait includes a smile that spreads from my mouth to my eyes.

This is a new way of seeing myself and as importantly a new way of participating in the world.

When my marketing consultant, Suzen Pettit from Omaginarium suggested it was time to develop a new website for my services,  I tentatively said yes and asked for a proposal to review.

At first it was hard for me to let go of my site (complete with photos I had taken) and then I reminded myself it was time for a change. I too needed to see things differently.  I agreed to move forward.

We did a deep dive into content & design and I took the opportunity to explore what would be of most value to potential clients. Clarity. Support. Authenticity. Confidence. Enthusiasm. Results.

I am excited to introduce you to the new, enhanced and improved Helen Churko Coaching

So, if there is something that you want to see or do differently, let's have a conversation about what is possible so you can get started.
