Is Your Wheelhouse Your Powerhouse?

These last few years as the stakes seem to get higher and higher for everyone, I have noticed two (business) trends: one where people are widening their services so they can compete in every circumstance that crosses their paths, the other is when people decide to explore their expertise and where it will have the best impact.

While casting a big net is working for some people, organizations and large companies (Amazon), I have found that most of my coaching clients are discovering the value of focusing on their unique gifts, and daring to let the rest go… their wheelhouse….their powerhouse.

Talk about life on the edge.

In the business world, the definition of wheelhouse is:, "one’s area of interest or expertise".

Back when I was a speaker agent, we would explore if a new speaker really had something that was distinctly theirs that they could deliver to an audience,  because unless they were famous,  (which sometimes is driven by their wheelhouse) we had to find a way to distinguish them in the marketplace.

I was thinking about this when last weekend I saw an interview on CBS Sunday Morning with Adrienne Warren, the Tony Awarding Winning Actress from Tina-The Tina Turner The Musical.

When she talked about her experience of portraying the singer, Tina Turner told Warren: “Don’t try to be me, find my essence”. At the end of the segment, Adrienne said to the interviewer “In my journey to learning how to be Tina, somewhere in there I’ve been able to find myself “.

Wow. Isn't that what we all hope for in our lives- That the experiences we have will bring us to where we want to go?

I keep thinking about how powerful it is when people find their essence, but I also realize that word might be a little “woo woo” for some, so here is the definition for your consideration:

“Essence:the basic nature of a thing: the quality or qualities that make a thing what it is."

Later on in the week, I saw another interview with Warren where she shared that she said, "Put on my vision board that I wanted to be the next Tina Turner “,  and that when she read for the show she thought she was being considered for the role of the sister. She then told the audience, "Never in a million years did I think that anyone could possibly see me as that…” ( Tina Turner),  and that " Someone saw something that I didn't see within myself."

TRUTH. Sometimes we can see it ourselves and sometimes it takes those around us to see our gifts and help us move them into the world.

How do you turn your wheelhouse into your powerhouse?

Working together, we dig deep into your gifts and skills to ensure that your contribution will be as unique as a fingerprint. Often that means clearing away judgments, limiting beliefs and expectations of who you " should be", to uncover what makes you distinct. Our goal is to find what makes you Stand Out so that you will be willing to take a gamble on yourself.

Whether it is your gift, your wheelhouse or your essence that you are looking to develop and to bring forward, let's arrange a time to explore which of my coaching services can help you make that happen.
